Christmas Lighting & Decoration Contest

The year 2020 proved to be a tough year for all of us! My concern is for the youth in our community. Kids have been isolated away from their friends and teachers at school. In many cases, they’ve experienced restrictions from interaction with extended family members. This has eliminated the benefits of many mentoring relationships, caused students and families to miss commemorative and milestone experiences, and the loss of opportunities for practical experiences and skill development.

There are trade offs. Not every result is negative. There are many positive outcomes to the havoc wreaking pandemic. In retrospect, many will find their silver lining. This season, I’d like to give kids and teens a reason to smile in an effort to end this painful year on a positive note!

How you can help

2. Spread the word to all of your neighbors, even if it means more competition. The outcome will be memorable!
3. Communicate your burning desire to volunteer to join me in making this event bigger and brighter for 2021!

UPDATE:

Sunday, December 20th – Lucky participants! Apparently, no one reads the newspaper for events during a pandemic. So, if I do not receive more entries, the prizes will be consolidated and most categories eliminated to make the contest more interesting. I am asking for volunteers to come forward to help organize for next year.

Participants

Cascade Park single family homes, multi-dwelling units, and small businesses.

Contest Area

From Interstate 205 East to 164th, and from Highway 14 North to Mill Plain Boulevard.  

Categories

1. Best Christmas Spirit,
2. Most Crafty Display,
3. Most Creative Display,
4. Best Santa Surprise!
5. Most Spirited Street Award (awarded to the street with the most participation).

***Kids and Teens categories are eliminated for this year, due to some concerns over ballot distribution and COVID 19 exposure.

Judging Date

Wednesday, December 23, 2020  

Judging Time

Between the hours of 5pm and 10pm (depending on the # of entries)

Winners of Categories 1-5 will be announced December 24th by 12 Noon by phone and posted on this website, due to technical difficulties in signing up on Nextdoor in time to announce the winners.

Prizes

Donations include:

• Christmas lights, decorations and a heavy duty 50 foot extension cord courtesy of HOME Depot,
• FREE pizzas courtesy of Juliano’s Pizzeria,
• Chick-fil-a Gift Card Courtesy of Maria Camacho from San Jose, CA
• Safeway Grocery Store Gift Card,
• Bragging rights with official certificate AND the undying gratitude from YOUR favorite Real Estate Broker, and YOUR beloved community! 😁

Application and entry fee of $10.00 must be received by Tuesday, December 22, 2020. 

Forms of payment accepted: Check or cashier’s check payable to Anna Rawson, cash if delivered in person by arrangement on or before the due date. Cash payments require receipt to claim any prizes.
